«There
are always shadows on our minds but clearness seems to gain over it.
Nothing more dubious. We may be blinded by the light and still see in
the darkness. The power of light is indeed strong and it attracts us
like bugs to it. Therefore, we may be walking to blindness instead to
enlightment pursuing just the light. Sometimes we need darkness in our
lives and also some dimness. It is not all black or white, colorful or
colorless. The gradients of life mixed with our expectations shape our
emotions and feelings and also direct our thoughts towards new
directions earlier unthinkable. Our will is helpless against these
confluent waves of energy. We are not the owners of ourselves though we
keep stubbornly wasting our strength pursuing the control of things. It
is a waste of time. In that attempt we build up marvelous things, like
love, friendships, literature, music, painting, sculpture, architecture,
engineering, science and even create
gods and religions filling the all firmament in the attempt to escape to
void and loneliness in this far planet lost in the vastness of the
universe. We can feel emptiness despite of being filled and we also can
feel filled being almost empty. However, in the process we also create
hate, grief, pain, trash, violence, wars. No education, magic
counseling, excess of any kind whatsoever can provide us with the
meaning of our own lives. We cannot only live with just one side/part of
life. It is not being selfish or violent, superficial, or joyful
sometimes that is the big problem. We need both what you call our good
and bad feelings to survive and live. Perhaps we expect too much of
ourselves and a big lot of the others towards the size of the task we
propose to achieve. So being humble toward our neighbors and stop
putting our ideals, goals, will and objectives in front of our human and
non human beings, learning how to forgive lapses, disabilities,
mistakes and failures either in us or in our fellows seems to be the
hardest way to go but maybe also the only available if in fact we seek
the path of greater peacefulness which is not limited to a simple
passivity or to a mere pacifism. We also must stop the fury that lead us
into unrestrained action to get, to control, to achieve power over
everything moved almost exclusively by our deepest fears. I think that
this is enough for now to me today.»
